Questions we get asked most often

  1. How much is your electric bill each month?
    A. Surprisingly our electric bill goes up only about $50 a month during the months our show is running.  All the pixels (each individual light bulb is called a pixel) are LED and very energy efficient.
  2. How long does it take to setup the show?
    A. Some of the house outline lights stay up year round, and we can light up the house for holidays such as 4th of July and Halloween.  To setup everything and make all the connections and testing takes somewhere between 60-80 hours.  This is just the setup.  To build additional props (each different display piece is called a prop) takes additional time and can take hours or days, depending on how many pixels are in the prop.
  3. Where do you find the time to do all this?
    A. I spend a lot of weekends and many evenings working a couple hours a day on my show.  This means I often start working on my show around March for my November show launch date.
  4. I heard you talk about “punching pixels”, what is this?
    A. Punching pixels is the process of pushing each pixel into a hole in the prop.  While this sounds easy, it is, but after doing hundreds at a time, it becomes painful on the fingers, lol.  We added 8,000 new pixels to our show this year, just to give you a perspective.
  5.  How long does it take to program a song?
    A. To sequence (sequence is the term that is used in our software program) a song, it takes close to 10 hours to program 1 minute of a song.  So for a 3 to 4 minute song, it takes roughly about 40 hours.  Thankfully in addition to programming our own songs, there are vendors that sell pre-programed sequences.  This is a huge time saver, however it still can take 3-5 hours to program the purchased sequence to our display.  So we use a combination of purchased and custom built sequences to bring you the best show possible.
  6. Are you going to expand each year?
    A. This year we got most of the props in place that we hoped we would.  We don’t have a lot more area to work with for adding new props, but certainly we will get a little creative each year to keep our show full of excitement!
  7. Do you take donations?
    A. We haven’t taken donations in the past, although we are asked about it all the time.  This year, as part of our website launch, we are going to offer the ability to make donations.  Our goal with donations will be to continue using our show to help bring smiles to faces and donations to various charities in our local communities. We will often focus our donations to charities who’s goal it is to bring happiness to children during the Christmas and holiday season.  We know many children go without toys, gifts, winter clothes and sometimes even quality meals during this time of year.   Our hope is that we can add some happiness during this time of year.
